Bédat & Co. Names Devine CEO
Godfrey Deeny
December 12th, 2006 @ 00:48 AM - Paris
Gucci Group’s writing and watch specialist Bédat & Co. has appointed William Devine to be its new CEO.
Devine, 40, is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in luxury watches and jewelry, working over
12 years in senior positions in both businesses.
Devine succeeds Christian Bédat, who founded the brand in 1996 with his mother Simone.
The new CEO began his career at as managing director of Montres Universal, before moving on to executive posts at Roberge Watches, de Grisogono and Perficio, a specialist investment vehicle focusing on the two industries.
Moreover, back in 2002 Devine also was once show director at Basel World, the watch and jewelry businesses annual paramount trade event.
In a release, Gucci Group said Devine will be responsible for “the brand’s development, in-line with the current strategy.”
Devine, Geneva-raised though of Scottish parentage, will report to Jean-Christophe Bedos, CEO of Boucheron, the Place Vendome, Paris high-end jeweler which Gucci Group also controls.
“I am delighted to welcome William Devine to the Gucci Group. His wide experience in managing and developing luxury timepiece businesses will prove invaluable,” said Gucci Group President and CEO Robert Polet.
Added the Genevois Devine: “It is a real privilege to be able to contribute to the success of Bédat & Co. and to further enhance its world class reputation in the watch-making industry.”
Bédat & Co. was acquired by Gucci Group in December 2000 Gucci Group in a flurry of acquisitions that turned the Italian brand into the third largest conglomerate in the world. Gucci expanded Bédat & Co., which had been primarily a writing specialist, into luxury watches.
Gucci Group, which for tax reasons is Ditch domiciled, controls Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Roger & Gallet, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney and YSL Beauté.
Gucci Group is owned by PPR, a global player in retail and luxury goods, whose controlling shareholder is Francois Pinault, Europe’s greatest collector of contemporary art.
