Brazil’s New London Pop-Up
Godfrey Deeny
September 21st, 2012 @ 7:20 PM - London
Brazil is having a hip retail moment in the UK.
The BRIC country, whose boom has turned Brazil into a significant fashion consumer, may be about to become an important luxury provider, as London’s most admired new pop-up boutique this month has shown.
Opened on Sept. 14, the opening day of the British runway season, the store, entitled Brazil Rising, has won judos from UK Vogue and assorted bloggers, introducing many of Latin America’s best new design talents to a London audience.
The brainchild of Sao Paulo-based fashion honcho Alice Ferraz, Brazil Rising features such noted creators as cosmopolitan chic designer Cris Barros, Patricia Viera, noted for her haute couture reach, Andrea Marques, Barbara Bela, Osklen and beachwear specialist Adriana Degreas.
Brazil’s most successful designer brand on the international market, Osklen staged its first runway show in New York on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in Lincoln Center.
Brazil Rising’s goal is “not only to gain international recognition, but to influence global fashion and also help dictate it,” insists Ferraz, who is already planning a reverse follow-up for next year. This will be a mirror-image retail project, since Ferraz now wants to invite a selection of top London's top designers to Sao Paulo for a United Kingdom pop-up in Brazil.
Taking the Latin American project into the heart of London, Ferraz opened Brazil Rising in Bluebird, the much-admired shopping and dining space on one of the British capital’s busiest retail arteries, the King’s Rd.
The Latin store, which opened with a Breakfast Brasileiro, lasts until September 28.
Subsequently, a selection of designs by these designers will
be available online throughout via The Shop at Bluebird, a new e-commerce platform, launching later this fall.
