Rag & Bone: Geek Chic Charm
Carol Lee Kim
September 09th, 2006 @ 10:32 AM
Despite the departure of co-founder Nathan Bogle earlier this summer, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of Rag & Bone presented a commendable collection for spring 2007 on Friday, September 8th at former nightclub Tunnel.
Jimmy Fallon and Vogue editrix Anna Wintour were just some of the familiar faces spotted in the crowd as models clad in slim cut blazers, cotton dress shorts and oxford shirts strut down the runway. The 2006 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists didn’t disappoint their denim fans either, providing a slew of super skinny jeans in white, indigo and light grey, lending the overall collection a dose of their signature punk-rock appeal.
For menswear, the design duo also experimented with some geek chic charm a la Jimmy Fallon where tucked in box cotton shirts, cropped linen shorts and skinny neckties made a lasting impression, while casual jackets in calf leather and slightly tapered jeans were like a younger, cooler interpretation of the leisurely garb best embodied by Ralph Lauren’s Chaps collection.
Most surprising was the handful of whimsical sundresses and linen shifts for womenswear. Although it’s always a delight to see designers try their hand at something new, the dresses just slightly missed the mark, never overcoming the vague realm of prettiness.
All in all, Rag & Bone managed to push forth without Bogle in tow, holding onto their knack at creating edgy street wear.
