Ferre: Sexiness Still Lives in Milan
Godfrey Deeny
September 24th, 2010 @ 2:42 PM - Milan
Just when you thought people had stopped having any romance in Europe, judging from the reined-in looks in London and Milan, along came the house of Gianfranco Ferre with some body-hugging, pulse-raising, hot fashion.
Cut well up the thigh, tight to the hips and with pure power shoulders, these clothes had sex appeal written all over them. Whether they were Grecian goddess dresses in gathered white chiffon and black leather straps or woven leather coat dresses where the lace underwear just about peeked through or even some faintly bondage looks that were racy, yet ladylike, the collection, staged Friday, Sept. 24, oozed suggestiveness.
Ferre’s design team of Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi did it while respecting the house’s famed architectural DNA, like with the slick, spruced up pant suits, made of high-waisted micro-pants and slim jackets of crepe de chine.
They are also such good tailors and drapers their clothes, though strict, do not restrict and the models all marched quickly and with purpose down the twisting catwalk in house’s central Milan headquarters.
“It was great to finally see some sexy clothes in Europe!” enthused Ron Frasch, president and chief merchandising officer of department store chain Saks Fifth Avenue, as he exited the show.
Also notable were a new sunburst crystal bags featuring gold lamina cage and lots of ring cylinders or mules with silver column heels, climaxing with graphic sequined mini cocktails – racy but never raw, sexy yet always sophisticated, just like this show.
