L*Space Gives Back with Green Swimwear
Simone Goller
November 19th, 2009 @ 12:17 AM - New York
California-based swimwear brand L*Space is providing fun and sophisticated women's swimsuits and giving back at the same time in more ways than one. The company is starting its eco-friendly ‘green' swimwear 2010 collection this year and partnering with OmniPeace to help fight hunger while helping trendy ladies dress for the beach.
What began in 1997 by designer Monica Wise as a small swimwear brand influenced by surf and sun soon turned into L*Space, a cutting edge bathing suit line that gives wearers the mix and match options to create a unique swimsuit reflecting their personal style.
Different cuts, styles and funky patterns give women of any age the option to cover or show as much or as little skin as they like, with names like "Scanty" and "Ooh La La." Prints cater to all sorts of personalities, including a lackadaisical vintage floral called "Wild Child," an edgy twist on the preppy rugby stripe "Rebel Rebel," and "Electric Avenue," revisiting the 80s with neon and geometric patterns. For print-shy females, embellishments include gold nugget hardware on straps and gold chains woven onto closures to up the glam factor.
The brand launched its new eco-friendly line "Slinky," with bathing suits made from renewable resource Sarona fiber, a naturally occurring starch in corn kernels, and adhering to a production process that reduces green house emissions that harm the environment. "I felt that it was time to be a little more conscious and consider the effect our business and purchases have on the environment," Wise said in a statement.
L*Space is giving back on a global level through a collaboration with OmniPeace, a humanitarian fashion brand most commonly identified by its celebrity sporting t-shirts with the outline of Africa underneath a two-fingered peace sign. With goals of ending hunger in Africa, OmniPeace promotes peace, education and human rights, and aims to end extreme poverty by the year 2025. The bathing suits show their solidarity to the cause with clasps and hardware embossed with the unifying symbol.
Through the alliance with OmniPeace, L*Space will donate 20 percent of its profits from its safari inspired styles to the organization to be disseminated among charities in Africa supporting humanitarian relief. L*Space fans include Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz and AnnaLynne McCord.
