Twenty8Twelve: Morning After Glamour

Godfrey Deeny
September 22nd, 2009 @ 12:14 AM - London

Twenty8Twelve, the fashion label of actress Sienna Miller and her sister Savannah, staged its second runway show in London Monday night, Sept. 21. While celebrity collections can be dicey affairs, this turned out to be a convincingly cool take on easy, rock-chic glamour.

The Millers explained they were inspired by the famed photography of African youth by Malick Sidibé. The Mali-born photographer is known for his black and white portraits, whereas this spring 2010 collection was saturated in color. The right sort of colors, too: From blotchy reds and scrunched up blues to jazzy purples, the hues all looked right, and very suitable for 2010.

Moreover, one could see the models loved working these clothes, like saucy denim mini dresses with exterior bustiers and transparent side panels or high-collar black leather bomber jackets. They all looked like lead singers in some rather fabulous rock band that is just about to be discovered, and all that bit cooler for being just off the radar.

“Abstract art and Ibiza,” was Savannah’s lapidary comment backstage after the sisters had received hearty applause when they took their bow in giant all-white show space near the River Thames.

“Lots of Ibiza,” shouted her fellow blond sibling Sienna, who skipped out of London immediately after the show to head to New York where she is preparing her debut Broadway lead role in "After Miss Julie," co-starring British actor Jonny Lee Miller.

Indeed, the influence of the beautiful Mediterranean island was paramount from the chunky bracelets, risqué swimwear, metal chain crosses and morning-after hair.

The whole show should have been staged on a sandy sunset beach to better appreciate these clothes – morning-after chic at its best.
