Doo.Ri Does Greys Right
Simone Goller
September 17th, 2009 @ 12:14 AM - New York
Doo.Ri's Spring 2010 show closed up the seventh day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in New York with a collection that provided a chic array of edgy, ashy toned ensembles for the fashionably youthful set.
"We wanted to start with a neutral color, sort of how we did most of the shows," said Doo Ri Chung of the color scheme consisting mostly of grey and similar charcoal, granite, stone and silvers. Even an ocean blue looked more like a washed out slate color. "We wanted to inject color throughout the collection," the designer said, speaking of the few, but well done pieces in spring brights, including a poppy tulle plisse dress and cobalt silk skirt.
With a contemporary feel, Doo Ri experimented with folds and texture as draping, knots and embroidery were the primary focus of most looks. Her cascading pleats descended from the waist on skirts, and flounce shorts added volume to a long leg silhouette - because hemlines were certainly elevated.
Distinguished dresses were aplenty, such as a glass print dress that created an aura of confidence within the circumference of its tulle overlay. Other special pieces included an embroidered floral shrug that could be worn atop just about anything and a charcoal pleated skirt - pieces that can easily carry over from one season to the next.
Make-up artist Tom Pecheux for MAC also upped the edge ante with lipstick, said Doo Ri after the show. "It's blue. I know that Tom really thought of that as a happy color. There's the trend of all the hot pink lipstick and he kind of did an edgier version of that," she said.
