Designer Accessories Get Bold Next Spring
Renata Espinosa
November 29th, 2007 @ 11:30 AM - New York
Neiman Marcus offered a peak at next spring's biggest accessory trends at their semi-annual preview in New York on Wednesday, Nov. 28. For a break from thinking about holiday gifts, here's what's topping their list of top designer trends when the weather warms up. Take the plunge and get creative next spring.
Color Calling
Will all the neutral colors on the runway, brightly colored accessories will add pop to any outfit, whether a coral patent leather flat or one of the color-blocked handbags from Prada or Marc Jacobs. Corals, pinks, purples, reds, aquas and emerald greens are the strongest color choices. If you're not quite ready to commit to color, another trend will be a neutral shoe will accents of tantalizing candy colored hues. Beige takes over for spring where grey left off this fall.
It's Material
Patent leather and metallics in color make these materials fresh - try out patent leather it in neon if you're feeling bold, while gold instead of silver is the hottest metallic color for evening.
Artist's Way
It's all about the "hand of the artist," said Sandra Wilson of Neiman Marcus. Look for painterly details like shoes with details made to look like paint splatters, or hand-painted scarfs. Elements like sculpted heels, like Prada's inventive flower-shaped heels, add whimsy and architectural surprise to standard pumps.
Shape of Spring
Good news for those needing a break from their large, oversized totes: The medium-sized handbag looks strong for next spring. Add one in white to your collection, or go global with a woven bag with tribal touches like beading or multi-colored patterning. In footwear, the big shape for spring is the closed-up sandal. Think "gladiator." Go with a version of fall's hottest shoe, an open-toed bootie or oxford.
Globetrotting
As with the clothes on the spring runways, accessories have a tribal bent to them next season. "You just have to pick a country," said Wilson.
Labels to Watch
Christian Louboutin handbags looking better than ever in neon pink patent leather, and Neiman Marcus is offering an expanded range from the hot shoe designer next season. Also new for the store are shoes by Diane von Furstenberg and Italian label 6267. Italophiles, take note: Fendi celebrates the 10th anniversary of its popular baguette-shaped bag.
