Charlize and Viggo Light Up "The Road" Red Carpet
Jenny Peters
November 05th, 2009 @ 12:16 AM - Los Angeles
Two of Tinseltown's best-looking stars lit up the red carpet on Wednesday night, Nov. 4, in Hollywood, as Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortensen brought their long-anticipated film "The Road" to the AFI Fest at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Based on the 2006 Cormac McCarthy novel, the film's release date has been juggled around for more than a year, but it will finally arrive just in time for Thanksgiving.
Mortensen, whose character in the post-apocalyptic tale is a father struggling to protect his son as they walk across a devastated American landscape in search of food and warmer weather, looked sharp with his long locks and well-tailored suit. Theron went with a silver minidress and flat sandals; a bit underdressed for the chilly night, but she had both her longtime love Stuart Townsend and her mother Gerda to help keep her warm.
Once they and their "The Road" costars, including Nick Pasqual and Michael K. Williams, director John Hillcoat, and fans including "CSI" star Marg Helgenberger, Julie Delpy, and Bollywood beauty Mallika Sherawat got settled in their seats, the AFI held a quick question-and-answer session with Mortensen after playing a tribute reel of his impressive body of work.
"You meet all kinds of people. You see all sides of yourself," Mortensen explained, when asked about his feelings toward being an actor. "And if you do it properly, you can learn a lot of things."
Mortensen, who commented extensively about "The Road" at an earlier press conference held at the Toronto Film Festival, explained back then that the film adaptation is very faithful to McCarthy's novel.
